MAGNETOSTRICTIVE High precision level measurement for liquid media on the magnetostrictive measuring principle Area of application The KSR FFG-T-... level sensors act as a measurement pick-up for the continuous measurement of fluid levels and are based on determining the position of a magnetic float by the magnetostrictive principle. Working principle The measuring process is triggered by a pulse of current. This current generates a circular magnetic field along a wire of magnetostrictive material stretched in the probe tube. A float with permanent magnets is used at the point being measured (liquid level). This magnetic field from the float twists the wire. The superimposition of the two magnetic fields triggers a mechanical wave in the wire. At the end of the wire, in the sensor housing, this is converted into an electrical signal by a piezo-ceramic transducer. Measuring the running time makes it possible to determine the starting point of the mechanical wave, and thus the float position, with great precision. Technical benefits The simple functional principle enables a very wide range of use. Constant sensing of fluid levels regardless of physical/chemical changes of state in the medium such as: foaming, conductivity, dielectric number, pressure, vacuum, temperature, vapours, condensation precipitation, bubbles, boiling effects, changing density. Transmission of signal over large distances. Simple fitting and commissioning, one-off balancing, no re-calibration required Interface level measurement and overall level From density > 50 kg/cubic metre. Limits of use: T = -2000 °C to +2000 °C P = vacuum to 100 bar Density > 400 kg/cubic metre The high availability of corrosion proof materials allows its use in all areas of industry: Chemicals, petrochemicals, natural gas, pharmaceuticals, offshore engineering, shipbuilding, power stations, energy plant, mechanical engineering, process water treatment, drinking water treatment, drinks and food stuffs industry. Solutions for specific processes of possible.
